• Assessment and strengthening of National Health Information Systems: design and implementation of an innovative project aiming to improve the quality and use of evidence-based health information in policy-making, in 6 pilot countries (Eastern/Western Europe and Central Asia, with field visits); 7 more countries subsequently requested to take part in this project. Responsibilities included (a) high-level contacts with national Ministries of Health; (b) development of methodological tools, using a participative approach with national teams; (c) creation of new local partnerships, negotiation of budget and work plan with all interested parties; (d) supervision of the writing of national reports and final editing.
• Development of an internal Policy and Strategy for Health Data and Information including a synthesis paper gathering contributions from 64 WHO programmes and from international bodies.
• Networking with WHO-Headquarters and other international organizations (European Commission-SANCO, OECD) around issues of knowledge management.
• Writing of 5 ‘Highlights on Health’ (France, Portugal, Spain, Austria and Luxemburg), incorporating contributions from WHO programmes and feedback from each country.
