Well, after having gotten my degrees (IT and Communications), I've decided to make myself more marketable by getting some certifications. Mind you, I haven't given up on going back to college and getting my second m\Masters and eventually a PhD, I just decided to focus on my career for a little while. I feel that the further education will come in time. From what I've heard in the industry, CompTia's A+, Network+ and Security+ are pretty much the standard for the II industry, so this is where I have decided to start. I bought both A+and Network+ study guides years ago, but have only now had the opportunity to read them carefully. I've decided to start with Network+ as it actually seems to represent the simpler of the two.
Chapter 1 pretty much goes through the basic architecture of the network, such as the physical topographies (bus, star, etc.), which is easy enough. Then, there is of course the individual networking devices (switches, routers. etc.), that can be a bit more confusing as some of them replicate the functions of others. The only thing I may have some trouble with is actually remembering the different cabling types and the effective ranges of data transmission. Other than that it seems simple enough. Here's to starting off a new career!
