my coaching philosophy is to try and coach an open and expansive game. I think it is essential in the modern game for players to have the ability to offload and try to keep the ball alive.

I'm extremely enthusiastic, energetic and committed coach. I have a genuine love and passion for rugby and want to develop and inspire the next generation of players. my approach to coaching is to encourage and support enjoyment for the game, whilst providing honest and constructive feedback. My personable and down to earth nature allows me to build relationships with both coaches and players based on trust and respect.

  • My responsibilities are:

    Head Forwards coach, I have a duty of care to coach the players the correct techniques to scrummage, ruck and maul in a correct and safe manner.
    Match day coach, I manage the whole day from the warm up to the motivational speaking before the game, half time talk and cool down and de-brief at the end of the game.
  • My role was to coach children how to play Tag rugby, introducing them to the game and giving then an understanding of the rules and sportsmanship.

  • The World Rugby (IRB) Rugby Ready programme was launched to educate, aid and support players, coaches, match officials on the importance of sufficient preparation for training and playing in order for rugby to be played and enjoyed while reducing the risk of serious injury.
  • The Scrum Factory aims to increase the number of players able to play in the scrum, particularly the front row. The course is designed to help coaches and players to understand individual and collective techniques, as well as position specific conditioning. Meaningful sessions can be delivered regardless of numbers attending training and with minimal equipment and expense to the club or school.
  • This module focuses on players' lack of game understanding at the breakdown, partly due to expectations embedded by the traditional drill format. The drill is an excellent tool for developing technique in isolation but of little value for game understanding.
  • The target audience for the Defence in Phase Play course is under-16 age group and above. Younger players should focus on tackle technique and scoring tries. The course is based on a set of philosophies and is not a system in itself. If players lack tackle skills, a defence system may have limited success.
  • The strategy and tactics of the backs should reflect the skills of your players. The most important area may be how space is attacked. The ability to manage the space in front and between the teams is vital. Players should understand that pressure cannot be applied to the opposition unless they put themselves under pressure. This module helps coaches condition sessions to develop decision-making in the face of varying scenarios.
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to: • Understand the need for a healthy, balanced diet to optimise sports performance. • Understand how to access credible information about sports and performance nutrition. • Understand the benefits and risks of specific nutritional protocols that may be used to prepare for sports or fitness events. • Understand the current scientific evidence relating to the safety and efficacy of common, legally available supplements and ergogenic aids.
  • Assess clients, choose the right strategies and techniques to facilitate positive behaviour changes, and successfully implement them as a personal trainer or nutrition adviser.
  • The course deals extensively with the issue of childhood obesity and how this can be prevented and managed. Currently in the UK, roughly one in three children leaves primary school either overweight or obese. Understanding why children become overweight, and being able to design effective, evidence-based programmes that target these causes, is key in reversing this trend.
  • The course gave me an understanding on how to apply the principles of nutrition during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. It explained the specific changes that occur in a woman’s nutritional requirements during this time and how to address them. In particular, I learnt about the key vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy pregnancy, appropriate weight gain, safe weight loss after giving birth and which foods to limit or avoid. There was information on how to cope with morning sickness and a list of pregnancy ‘super-foods’.
