Creation of a campaign to raise awareness about injustly imprisoned political prisoners
Generating media attention for campaign
Detailed Description
Together with 11 other people I donated 4 weeks of my life to work on a campaign to free Nasrin Sotoudeh, an injustly imprisoned Iranian lawyer and Ales Baliatski, an injustly imprisoned human rights defender from Belarus. Out of 120 applications, I was one of the 12 people selected to be part of this ground breaking campaign. We were locked up symbolically at Amnesty's headquarter in Amsterdam where we worked hard on developing a campaign. To make sure to get the best out of our action we received masterclasses in Human Rights, Politics, Campaigning, Digital Activism, Lobby, Press & Communication, Video & Editing, and more.
We all had one main goal: Attention for the cases of Nasrin, Ales and other injustly imprisoned prisoners! I am very happy to say that in september 2013 Nasrin Sotoudeh has been released from prison.

IAFF is not only short for International Amsterdam Film Festival but also for International Amsterdam Future Formats. It is a platform, a crossroad where an urban-oriented audience, artists, DJ’s and VJ’s, the creative industry and policy makers can meet each other, where the cutting edge productions in the field of visual culture are presented and even produced, where entertainment, engagement and education are inseparable elements. Just as previous years IAFF will have four categories for films (features, documentaries, shorts/music videos and “next gen” commercials) as well as the MAFIA (media, art, film, innovation) exhibition.
IAFF comes out of the Resfest tradition and has built a dense network with other festivals and organizations. IAFF is a platform where high-budget films and established artists are presented shoulder-to-shoulder with cutting edge independent productions. Nowadays artists take advantage of new tools and technologies, such as web 2.0, Open-source software, streaming video, new generation mobile phones, gaming, etc. There is a growing audience which demands more than a specialized, genre- or target based festival experience.

Company Description
Filmtheater De Uitkijk is the oldest movie theatre of The Netherlands, having been set up by the Dutch Film League in 1929. In 1913, an old shop on the Prinsengracht was transformed into the City Cinema, a cinema for the elite. In 1929 the Dutch Film League adopted the City Cinema and changed its name to De Uitkijk. The director at the time, Mannus Franken, was inspired by the French avant-garde cinemas in Paris and wanted to create a similar atmosphere in De Uitkijk. The movies shown would be chosen by artists and connoisseurs to guarantee a standard of quality films. Franken wanted to ‘create a movie theatre instead of a cinema, which would show art – not entertainment.’ Up until today, Filmtheater De Uitkijk does its best to keep this standard by screening quality films for all movie lovers, just as Franken intended. Hence, De Uitkijk always offers character-bearing films and likes doing something extra for the lovers of film. The movie theatre presents a different Upload Cinema every month, viewings for Vrienden van De Uitkijk (‘Friends of De Uitkijk’) and autism-friendly screenings. The theatre also regularly hosts film festivals concerning, for instance, French or Italian cinema. The movie theatre has 86 comfortable chairs, of which 24 can be found on the balcony. On this balcony, it is possible to order something to eat or drink or enjoy an exclusive package deal – with one flick of a switch. Since the reopening of the theatre in 2007, Filmtheater De Uitkijk has been run completely by a group of enthusiastic students. This group of devoted cinephiles take care of all aspects of the cinema, ranging from the film programme and the PR to the projection of the films and the waiting at the bar.
