Completing his BA in biology at the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Lebrun undertook honors thesis research on the eye’s short wavelength photoreceptors. He subsequently completed a doctorate at the University of California, Irvine in environmental toxicology. In working toward his doctorate he performed research on mammalian cell culture and yeast models, with an emphasis on biochemical responses to toxin exposure.

Dr. Lebrun's initial postdoctoral work at Stanford University’s Department of Hematology and Oncology resulted in the discovery of novel processes related to N-Myc interacting protein regulation. He went on to complete a fellowship at the Department of Molecular and Cell Biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and undertook the purification and characterization of mammalian DNA polymerase zeta. Prior to establishing his current firm, Stewart Lebrun engaged as principal investigator with Miragene, Inc., where he oversaw the creation a variety of medical diagnostic tests.
