Duties included the coordination in the Asia-Pacific region of WHO technical assistance to countries for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) projects. At time of tenure, the GFATM supported 42 projects in 17 countries in the region, totalizing US$740 millions.
Detailed Description
As the WHO focal point, duties included the organizing and chairing of regular meetings on various GF topics, the keeping of all WPRO and in-country WHO personnel up-to-date on all GF developments, the day-to-day desk as well as in-country troubleshooting, preparation of a WHO position paper on GF, the representation of WHO at international Global Fund meetings, etc.
Achievements include a recognized contribution to the drafting of key GF policy documents, the establishing of a large network of professionals, the development of a central archives system, the establishing of a Sharepoint focus site, the regional coordination of the preparation of the successive rounds for proposals, etc.
With a collective credit one may note that the Asia-Pacific region (WHO-defined "WPR") scored the highest proposal success rate (65%) in the World (worldwide rate:30%) at the fifth round.
