Shirvahna Gobin serves as deputy commissioner of strategic planning and management for the New York City Department of Correction. She oversees implementation of the 14-Point Anti-Violence Reform Agenda (AVRA), having facilitated its development through a comprehensive organizational health survey. Shortly thereafter, Shirvahna Gobin established the Department of Correction's Project Management Office, which has introduced more than 250 reform initiatives to-date.
Shirvahna Gobin also stands out as the creator of the department's Operational Management Unit. She charged the unit with leadership of the model facility restart program, geared toward minimizing violence and improving operations across facilities. Thus far, the unit has successfully reduced violence in 44 houses across four facilities through implementation of the program
Shirvahna Gobin initially joined the Department of Correction as executive director of constituent services and intergovernmental affairs. From this position, she earned promotion to assistant commissioner for strategic planning. She comes to the department with diverse experience in community leadership, having served in such roles as director of a cancer services program for the New York State Department of Health and the American Cancer Society and director of development for The Ecologies of Learning Project at the New York Theological Seminary.
