Dedicated to improving outcomes through research and product development, Dr. Sanjiv Narayan sold his successful technology development startup to Abbott Laboratories and now directs the atrial fibrillation and electrophysiology research programs at Stanford University. He has received a number of research grants through the National Institutes of Health (totaling over five million dollars), which is currently supporting his work in the dynamics and maintenance of atrial fibrillation in humans. Since Abbott took ownership of Topera, , Dr. Narayan has continued his research in at Stanford University in computationally reconstructed fibrillation maps and other translational projects as a professor of medicine.

Dr. Sanjiv Narayan is the developer of a technique to improve ablation of atrial fibrillation. The mentor of many graduate students whose work has won awards and secured external funding, he has earned a number of teaching and research awards for his own work. Dr. Narayan serves as an associate editor or member of the editorial board for several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and has servsed on the program committee for the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions and Program Chair for Arrhythmias of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Scientific Sessions.
