As the mayor of Portland, Oregon, from 2009 to 2012, Sam Adams worked diligently toward his goal of making the city the most sustainable municipality in the world. Over the course of his mayoralty, Sam Adams helped reduce the city’s carbon footprint while also investing in green energy by creating incentives for clean tech companies. After he finished his term, he became the executive director of the City Club of Portland, which hosts civic policy meetings for the public. At City Club, he provided support to members who were doing research on the most pressing public policy issues and worked diligently to engage citizens while building communities.

After two years with City Club, Sam Adams was hired by the World Resources Institute (WPI) United States. As a director at WPI, he focuses on national climate issues and seeks out opportunities to encourage the country’s transition to a thriving economy that does not rely as heavily on carbon. In addition, he helps develop new policies that promote sustainability.

Recreationally, he keeps active by hiking, biking, and gardening. In addition, he has an interest in beekeeping.
