For more than 19 years, Robert Rankin has enjoyed his role as the owner and operator of Snowbird Mountain Lodge in Robbinsville, North Carolina. He manages the chalet and grounds that offer guests a wide range of delights, including photography workshops, meals fashioned from home-grown produce, and private decks with hot tubs. When guests arrive at the historic property, he is typically the friendly face behind the registration desk offering directions and revealing the best hiking trails. His warmth fosters a sense of intimacy and personal connection. Overlooking the Cherohala Skyway vistas and sparkling Lake Santeetlah waters, Snowbird Mountain Lodge presents guests with an unforgettable, scenic retreat that Mr. Rankin believes can sooth and inspire.
Robert Rankin has worked hard to create an environment that allows guests to relax, disconnect, and appreciate the scenery surrounding the inn. With no television and weak cell phone reception, he encourages guests to ponder under the stars and share their thoughts in journals kept in the rooms. He also publishes a newsletter to further connect with devoted visitors.
While children under 12 are not allowed at the inn, his two daughters visit the property every summer - prints of their baby feet are captured in cement by the cottage. His daughters refer to their trips as “coming to the woods.”
