A former attorney with a forensic science background, Michael W. Sganga received a bachelor of science in molecular biology from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he spent three years as a laboratory and research assistant. In total, Michael W. Sganga has more than two decades of experience in microbiology and neurobiology laboratories with a specific focus on molecular cloning, DNA and RNA sequencing, and bioinformatics.
Mr. Sganga holds a PhD in biology from Indiana University, where he wrote his thesis on the molecular genetics of photosynthesis. As a research fellow of the National Institutes of Health, he directed a research team in the study of alcoholism and drug addiction in the brain, and he has published original research articles in the Journal of Bacteriology and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
A graduate of the New College of California School of Law, Mr. Sganga spent 15 years as an attorney with the Placer County Public Defender's Office. He currently works as a senior scientist in Redwood City, California, and as an enforcement analyst with the California Architects Board.
