A licensed contractor since 1990, Michael Baskin is the president of Baskin Design, a design and construction company responsible for building homes and small specialty inns throughout Los Angeles, Maui, Hawaii, and parts of Asia. Michael Baskin has been particularly active in Maui, Hawaii, where as president he oversees both the Paia Inn and Paia Inn Café. In 2010, he established Paia Properties, which specializes in renovation projects that allow for the historical preservation of the region’s oldest, most aesthetically unique properties. He is also a member of several local groups and organizations, such as the Kuau Bayview Association and the Paia Main Street Association.
Mr. Baskin studied architecture and design at the University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating with a bachelor of arts in 1986. He continued his education at Pepperdine University in Malibu, studying business and finance as a student in the master of business administration program. Michael Baskin’s construction work is often defined by coastal designs and a blend of indoor and outdoor spaces. He is also an accomplished preservationist, who completely renovated the nearly 100-year-old Paia Inn without making any changes to the building’s layout.
