For more than a decade, Mendel Bluming has served the Maryland Jewish community through his position as rabbi and executive director at Chabad Shul of Potomac. At the synagogue, he cultivates a welcoming, family-oriented community, which has lead many members to seek his mentoring and guidance on both religious and life matters. Rabbi Bluming is dedicated to the education of his congregation and offers educational programming to members of all ages. To serve the wider Jewish community, Mendel Bluming and his wife Sara run the synagogue’s Chabad Hebrew School.
An active member of his community, Rabbi Bluming sat on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington for six years. For his years of service to the local Jewish community, he was honored with the federation’s 2011 Matthew H. Simon Rabbinical Award.
Mendel Bluming was ordained as a rabbi by French Jewish leader Rabbi Hillel Pewzner. Additionally, he received ordination as a Jewish judge, or Dayan, from the Chief Rabbi of Montreal, Pinchas Hirshprung.
