A New York City resident with diverse talents, Melanie Salkin holds a bachelor of arts in elementary education with a double minor in speech and theater from Lehman College in the Bronx. After graduating with honors in 1973, she accepted a position as the head buyer of merchandise for Brooklyn’s Rose Salkin Bridals and Fashions. In this position, Melanie Salkin was in charge of finding merchandise to meet the exact wants and needs of the store’s existing clients as well as its extended target demographic. She also assisted in the creation and design of several mother-of-the-bride styles that sold in high numbers and ultimately appeared at nearly every wedding in the tri-state area.
Since parting ways with the bridal shop in 1995, Melanie Salkin has had more time to engage in various personal endeavors, including volunteering as a tutor at multiple local schools. An avid fan of basketball, she has used her knowledge and love of the game and the sports page of the newspaper as a tool for language arts education.
