As the superintendent of schools with the Ramsey Public School District (RPSD) in New Jersey, Dr. Matthew Murphy oversees the daily activities of more than 2,800 K-12 students and more than 500 staff members. Under his leadership, the RPSD has earned recognition as an Apple Distinguished District from Apple, Inc. New Jersey Monthly magazine has also ranked the RPSD 21st on its list of the top high schools in the state. In addition to leading the District’s workforce and setting the educational curriculum, Dr. Murphy is in charge of judiciously administering its $61 million operational budget.
Before joining the RPSD in 2013, Dr. Murphy served four years as the superintendent of schools with New Jersey’s River Vale Public School District. He earlier held multiple administrative positions with Westwood Regional School District, including tenures as the assistant superintendent for curriculum/instruction and the director of elementary education/district technology. He was the principal of Westwood’s Berkeley Elementary School from 1999 to 2006.
