“Identification of some mummification balms components used in Ancient Egypt, by GC/MS
Detailed Description
This work took place in a study of antique materials initiated by the French Museums using human or animal mummification balms from different parts of Egypt. The first part of this work was the preparation of the samples: methanolysation and silylation were necessary prior to GC/MS analysis using an ion-trap mass spectrometer. This work resulted in a reference report that gave the main EI mass spectra resulting from human and animal balms, and thus provided information on the wax or plant species type used by the Egyptians during mummification.
