Dr. Lydia Bazzano, MD, PhD, MPH, holds the Lynda B. and H. Leighton Steward Professorship in Nutrition Research and serves as director of the Center for Lifespan Epidemiology Research in the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She is a renowned expert in nutritional epidemiology and has published over 100 papers focused on environmental, dietary, and behavioral factors that contribute to conditions such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, kidney and liver diseases. Alongside her research, Dr. Lydia Bazzano has served as a peer reviewer for over 20 prominent journals including the Lancet, the American Journal of Epidemiology, JAMA, Epidemiology, the Canadian Medical Association Journal, and the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. She also sits on the editorial board of Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases.

Dr. Bazzano holds a BS in biology, an MD, a PhD in epidemiology, and an MPH from Tulane University in New Orleans. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.

In addition to her research at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Dr. Bazzano serves as an adjunct assistant professor at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. She also serves as an active staff physician at the Ochsner Medical Center, where she previously served as associate program director the Internal Medicine residency program.
