After obtaining her bachelor of science in nutrition from the main campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Laura Lyn Jacimore matriculated at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine in Little Rock to complete an internship in dietetics. She went on to spend two years as a registered clinical dietitian at Little Rock’s UAMS Hospital before returning to the UAMS College of Medicine to attend medical school, where she received the Winston K. Shorey Award for outstanding freshman student. Laura Lyn Jacimore earned her doctor of medicine in 1990, and completed a residency in radiation oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1995.

Early in her career, Dr. Jacimore practiced at both the Opelousas Community Cancer Center in Opelousas, Louisiana, and the Savoy Cancer Center in Mamou, Louisiana. For the past 15 years, she has provided direct care and managed facility activities at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Cancer Care at Nash in Rocky Mount. Until 2007, she was also on staff as a clinical assistant professor in the UNC Radiation Oncology Department.
