With a background as university English professor, Judy Burke is also a novelist whose works span the international crime fiction, suspense, and thriller genres. Among her novels written as J. Lee Burke is Blackrock Island. In early 2017, Judy Burke guided a Learning Resources Advisory Committee-sponsored book discussion on the book as part of the Macomb Multicultural International Initiatives.

Since 2011, Ms. Burke has additionally served as adjunct professor of English with the Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan. She has presented in a number in venues, including on Novel Writing: Unmasking the Story Within You at a writing conference workshop in Grosse Pointe.

Judy Burke earned her BS in education at Villanova University and also undertook studies with the Association Montessori International. She completed her masters of English language and literature at the University of Michigan. Active with the Mystery Writers of America, Ms. Burke also serves as program director with My Sisters in Crime.
