A prominent futurist and former librarian, San Francisco resident Joe (Joseph) Murphy drew upon more than a decade of experience in his most recent position as the director of library futures for the Bay Area company, Innovative Interfaces. In this role, he worked with thought leadership and product design and management teams to develop initiatives that expanded the company’s reach. Joseph “Joe” Murphy also forged partnerships with organizations and events, such as at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
Prior to his work with Innovative Interfaces, Joe Murphy served as a keynote speaker and consultant for Library Future in Los Angeles, California, and as a science librarian and coordinator of instruction and technology with Yale University. In his work at Yale, he managed operations and supervised a budget of more than $2.5 million in the science libraries.
In addition to his professional experience, Joe Murphy holds a number of relevant degrees and certificates. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Syracuse University before going on to complete a master’s degree in library and information science at the University of Hawaii. Mr. Murphy also recently completed an MBA at San Francisco State University and is nearing completion of a master’s degree in foresight (futures studies) at the University of Houston. Joe Murphy also holds a certificate in Human Centered Design 9design thinking and design research) and a certificate in strategic foresight.

With this MBA I can ensure that creative projects have the how and what to succeed and that future-facing initiatives serve future stakeholders.
