As founder and president of Westlake, Ohio-based Custom Fundraising Solutions, Joe Matejka led the development of the mattress fundraiser concept, a model that has allowed students at thousands of public schools across the nation to earn money for their extracurricular activities by conducting one-day mattress sales in school facilities, such as cafeterias and choir rooms. In previous single-year periods, Custom Fundraising Solutions has used the mattress fundraiser to help student organizations ranging from debate teams to wrestling squads elicit funds in excess of $3 million. Joe Matejka oversees coordination of the sales, which feature mattresses of all sizes and styles at up to 60 percent off the retail price, with available setup and delivery services.
Within the local community, Joe Matejka supports Fill This House, a nonprofit that helps young people transitioning out of foster care to secure basic items essential for carrying on independent adult life. Through Custom Fundraising Solutions, Mr. Matejka partners with Fill This House to donate mattresses to former foster children who have no bed.
When not occupied with his professional and charitable pursuits, Mr. Matejka takes the opportunity to travel to domestic and international destinations. He also enjoys exercising and reading books on successful business management, including Good to Great by James Collins.
