THE DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY at the University of Washington (UW) has played a significant role in the evolution of American geography.
Our graduate students form a supportive and intellectually vibrant community. Each year we seek to add 5-10 new members to that community. We use a collective and committee-based admissions process to select a group of students who will succeed here, and who will find this a hospitable place to pursue their goals. We assess several aspects of each applicant’s background to inform our admissions decisions. We look for evidence that each applicant can:
Exercise independent and creative thought; Conceive and execute an original research project; Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; Manage the demands of a rigorous academic environment; Work well with others; and Contribute constructively to our intellectual community.
The University at Buffalo is the largest campus in the State University of New York system and New York's leading public center for graduate and professional education. Our more than 29,000 students pursue their academic interests through more than 400 undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs.
