An accomplished Alabama administrator and investment professional, J. William "Billy" McFarland, Jr., has served a range of management positions in both the public and private sectors throughout his career. These include tenures as a community development planner with the West Alabama Regional Commission and a special assistant to the president of the University of West Alabama. In addition to leading projects as a special advisor with the public policy and economic development firm The Austin Group, J. William McFarland, Jr. serves as managing member of Buffex and SmithMack.
A real estate investment group, Buffex has holdings in multiple states. Over his 15 years with Buffex, Billy McFarland has also led the delivery of a range of professional consulting services. William McFarland, Jr., has concurrently directed operations at SmithMack since cofounding this investment company in May of 2018. SmithMack’s versatile investment portfolio concentrates on ventures in the real estate and energy sectors.
