Hershel Cannon studies neurobiology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he participates in the campus community through his roles as the Neuroscience Club's event coordinator and as his student government organization’s internal vice chair. Hershel Cannon also volunteers as an ambassador for the university’s David and Wanda Brown Center for Leadership and Service, where he helps fellow students uncover their own leadership abilities, and as an organizer for The Big Event, a day devoted to community service.

Hershel Cannon also stands out for his leadership role in his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. In addition to serving as an assistant new member educator, he leads as an assistant community service chair, a role in which he organizes a food drive twice a year. In 2014, he was recognized as the fraternity’s Academic Brother of the Year.

As he works toward his degree in neurobiology, Mr. Cannon is gaining experience as a research project leader with the McKnight Brain Institute, where he focuses on learning about glioblastoma, and as an intern with the Neuromedicine Interdisciplinary Clinical and Academic Program (NICAP) where he assists hospital patients.
