Dr. Nancy Coogan is a well-established Washington State school administrator who held responsibilities as Tukwila School District Superintendent from 2013 to 2017. Focused on increasing equitable learning opportunities for all, Dr. Nancy Coogan guided a Puget Sound Coalition partnership that sought to reduce opportunity gaps.
A key focus was on improving outcomes related to postsecondary enrollment and completion, as well as high school graduation. Dr. Coogan was recognized for her efforts through the Gaston Caperton Opportunity Honor Roll, with Tukwila School District among 130 across the country recognized for boosting underrepresented student opportunities. Her accomplishments extended to enabling passage of $99 million bond that added significantly to educational facilities spanning Foster High School and Showalter Middle School.
As principal of Mukilteo School District from 2004 to 2010, Dr. Coogan oversaw staff hiring and developed strategies designed to exert higher levels of academic achievement. Dr. Nancy Coogan was able to set in place an ethos that empowered teachers and fostered results-focused professionalism within the academic culture.
Drawing on her successes in education, Dr. Nancy Coogan co-authored a chapter in the 2015 Information Age Publishing book Mindfulness for Educational Practice: A Path to Resilience for Challenging Work. The chapter is titled “Inquiry on Supporting Urban High School Principals: Action Research for Mindfulness Practice.”
