A resident of Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Melita M. Garza serves as an associate professor in the school of journalism at Texas Christian University. As a twentieth-century historian who concentrates her interests on English and Spanish-language news, she recently wrote the book They Came to Toil: Newspaper Representations of Mexicans and Immigrants in the Great Depression, published by the University of Texas Press. She also focuses on business and economics reporting and media literacy. At the university, Dr. Melita Garza creates, plans, and teaches courses on media history, diversity and the media, and business journalism.

Dr. Melita Garza earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University and an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. She also obtained a doctoral degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a Roy H. Park Fellow, which provided her with full tuition, fees, and a stipend through the Triad Foundation.

Dr. Melita M. Garza belongs to several professional organizations, including the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the American Journalism Historians Association, the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
