Kevin's journey into medicine began in Minnesota, where he was born and raised. He pursued his undergraduate education at Macalester College in St. Paul, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1974. He continued his studies at the University of Minnesota, earning a Master's in Quantitative Genetics in 1975. This rigorous scientific training gave him a solid foundation for his medical studies at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1979. While at medical school, he distinguished himself as a top student, earning induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society.
