About Me
In her role as superintendent, Dr. Christine Johns has established Utica Community Schools as a leader in the use of technology in the classroom.

UCS has earned a national reputation for its innovative use of technology to personalize instruction. The district’s restructured kindergarten and first-grade programs use a blended learning model to provide personalized experiences for its youngest learners. The district provides digital content that allows all K-12 students to access learning 24/7.

Dr. Johns is also working at a national level to promote the effective use of technology through Digital Promise. This White House initiated project invited leaders across the country to form a League of Innovative Schools to study best practices in technology use in our classrooms. Dr. Johns recently met with White House administration officials to discuss policy changes that could strengthen technology in public schools. She was also among 100 national superintendents participating in the White House-sponsored Future Ready initiative.

Prior to her appointment as superintendent of schools of Michigan’s second largest school district, she served as deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Baltimore County Public Schools.

Dr. Johns holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and both a Master’s of Education degree and Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Harvard University.
