A resident of Massapequa, New York, Carl Hoops began his career in 1988 as an electrical lineman with Public Service Enterprise Group. For the next 29 years, Carl Hoops was responsible for maintaining electric grids and responding to emergency calls throughout Massapequa, Hicksville, and other Long Island communities. Throughout his career, he has handled a variety of emergency calls, such as those involving vehicles colliding with power poles and live wires on fire.
Understanding the potential danger of working on 13,000-volt power sources on a daily basis, Mr. Hoops always wore rubber sleeves and gloves, and has garnered numerous safety awards during his career. He also achieved perfect attendance for more than 20 years.
Beyond his regular day-to-day responsibilities, Carl Hoops ran for office in his labor union, Local 1049 of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, in 2007, finishing as runner-up after losing by a single vote. Outside of his career pursuits, he is a passionate New York Jets fan who also enjoys riding and repairing Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
