Drawing on more than three decades of experience as an educator, Bruce Houck serves as superintendent of Southwest Educational Cooperative. Based in Hendricks, Minnesota, he guides a team of nearly 150 staff members spanning five communities, with an annual budget exceeding $10 million. Securing and directing the use of grant funds, Bruce Houck guides traditional classrooms and has set in place an online school for grades 5 through 12.

Mr. Houck previously spent 14 years as superintendent of Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Public Schools. He was successful in consolidating three Minnesota districts in 2006, earning strong approval from the communities involved. He also set in place a governance team that ensured that children’s education adhered to consistently high standards.

Mr. Houck’s experience extends to leadership roles with a number of public school districts throughout South Dakota. He initially engaged with Solen Public School District as a high school principal in the mid-1980s, boosting student attendance from 67 percent to 94 percent within a three-year period. Bruce Houck also was successful in creating a computer lab for the math and English departments that cost the district no extra money.
