Dissertation: Testing of Firewalls on Various Operating Systems: (Distinction) The purpose of this research was to evaluate the abilities of different firewalls for possible vulnerabilities using Backtrack and Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Tools with a goal of ensuring Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability for legitimate users. Choosing a firewall as a Get-Keeper tool to secure an organization and its users for improved security of the organization because these users connect to the organization's network and outside world, this may increase insecurity if their systems are vulnerable.
