An accomplished San Diego, California-area entrepreneur, Alex Hern brings more than 25 years of experience to his role as Tsunami XR’s founder and chief executive officer (CEO). Before he launched Tsunami XR in San Diego, Alex Hern served as the CEO of Tags, Inc., which he had founded; a member of the board for Agiliance, Inc., of which he was a cofounder; and a board member of NewHomes.com. He began his career when he established the Berkeley, California-based Inktomi, which developed the technology used by leading search engines in the early days of the public Internet.
An alumnus of Florida State University with a bachelor of science in business, Alex Hern regularly speaks at professional events such as the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference and the Consumer Electronics Show and attends the Enterprise Wearable Technology Summit (EWTS). He also serves as a mentor to the next generation of tech entrepreneurs.
Multi-experienced San Diego-based entrepreneur Alex Hern, the founder of Tsunami XR, Inc., received his bachelor of science in business from Florida State University. In the mid-1990s, he launched Inktomi, Inc., a web-crawler-based search engine whose software became the basis for the search-engine HotBot, which in turn was acquired by Yahoo!. Alex Hern subsequently established more than a dozen tech-centered companies, and he continues not only to mentor emerging entrepreneurs in San Diego and beyond, but also to serve on a variety of boards of directors.
In addition to Tsunami XR, the firms to which Alex Hern has contributed over the past 25 years as a founder, chief executive officer, board member, or funder include the web-directory and email marketer Yesmail.com; the digital-messaging firm Tags, Inc.; and the cyber security-focused Agiliance, Inc., CloudShield Technologies, Inc., and ArcSight, Inc. Alex Hern has achieved notable successes with his ventures. For example, Hewlett-Packard acquired ArcSight in 2010 for $1.5 billion. Yesmail.com, which received renown as one of the top-10 most-visited websites of its day, sold for $520 million. Shortly after he created Inktomi, he established the seed-stage venture-funding firm MILCOM Technologies, Inc., which brought in hundreds-of -millions of dollars to boost the capacities of more than a dozen startups.
Hern regularly attends and is a featured speaker at industry events, including the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and the Enterprise Wearable Technology Summit. Additionally, he attends the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference.
