Although he is an expert in diagnosing and treating complex strabismus and other eye disorders in all age groups, Alan B. Richards, MD, presently serves as a pediatric ophthalmologist at the Highland Clinic. He also teaches as a clinical assistant professor at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. As the first pediatric ophthalmologist in the state, Alan B. Richards, MD, was presented with an Honor Award by the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
Alan B. Richards, MD, earned his BA from Rice University in Houston, where he studied history and psychology, and was named to the President’s Honor Roll each semester. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
In his current practice, Alan B. Richards, MD, treats a number of pediatric eye conditions including strabismus (misaligned eyes) and ptosis (droopy eyelids). Dr. Alan Richards also performs regular eye examinations for both adults and children and eye surgery to correct conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma. Additional responsibilities include teaching residents and advising primary care physicians and other medical professionals on how to properly conduct vision screenings.
